Don't let the friendly, family-oriented atmosphere fool you. Foxhills Resort may not have an intimidating tweed-clad caddie master ruling the roost, or a reverential hush in the lounge broken only by the odd creak of century-old leather, but make no mistake, its golf courses are on a par with the very best that clubs in this region have to offer.
"Foxhills has three excellent courses offering very different tests" - Golf Monthly
Courses like Sunningdale, Swinley Forest and Foxhills were all built on the beautiful, gently undulating and well-forested terrain of the Surrey-Berkshire border country. As a result, Foxhills offers some of the best golfing challenges and conditions you'll find anywhere in the UK.
"Our courses are a combination of parkland and heathland that is typical of the best layouts in this part of the world"
This unique facility has become the major golfing resort in the area, offering the 9-hole Manor Course for less experienced golfers - or for those seeking some serious short game practice - and two 18-hole Championship courses which have staged a number of prestigious tournaments, including the European Tour Qualifying School. Sandy Lyle, and European Tour veteran D.A. Russell, were among two of the esteemed winners of the Qualifying Schools held here and the club has also helped to start the careers of two of English golfs brightest young stars on tour, Paul Casey and Anthony Wall. Casey and Wall were both early members of the lauded Foxhills Foundation junior golf programme that seeks to introduce youngsters aged between 12 and 16 to the game and also provides free membership, including equipment and tuition, for four local boys and girls over a four-year period.
"The world's 7th top
golf resort" - The Observer
When you experience the quality of the golf on offer you can see why so many high quality players have been nurtured at Foxhills. The 6,743-yard Longcross and the 6,892-yard Bernard Hunt championship courses offer a mesmerising blend of challenges that include the very best features of classic inland course design. "Our courses are a combination of parkland and heathland that is typical of the best layouts in this part of the world", says Foxhills' Director, Marc Hayton.
"People ask which course is better, the Hunt or the Longcross?"
Both courses set the golfer a unique set of challenges and there is a continuing but unresolved debate among members about which course is the toughest. Head Professional, Richard Summerscales, says: "People ask which course is better, the Hunt or the Longcross? I think the golfer can only answer that after he has played both. The Hunt Course is longer but more wide open and forgiving. Every hole on the Longcross is through the trees but it is narrow and slightly shorter."
Over the last 25 years, the Foxhills Resort has already built a worldwide reputation for providing golf, leisure facilities and accommodation of the highest standard. With a further £1.2m spent on irrigation and drainage, its courses are better than they have ever been before. Put simply, it's a golfing experience not to be missed.
