The modern Olympic sport of Judo is a fast dynamic sport which requires strength, skill, agility and balance. It is an excellent form of anaerobic fitness and its ethos of respect, self-discipline and honour makes it a great sport for kids to learn.
'Mini-Judo' will be a cross between Judo and Gymnastics. It will teach core gymnastic skills and the fundamentals of judo, such as balance, movement and posture. These are the building blocks for all sports. 'Mini-Judo' will be a precursor to the beginners Judo class at Foxhills . Classes will be suitable for children aged 4 to 10 years old.
Benefits of Mini Judo:
These classes are designed to improve your child's special awareness, confidence and co-ordination. Classes will be centred on fun and taught in a safe environment.
Is Judo dangerous?
The simple answer is no! All students are taught how to land safely and protect their partner. It is actually used in football and rugby to reduce injury by learning how to fall correctly. Judo is taught on soft jigsaw mats and will increase the confidence of the more timid child whilst channelling the energies of the more intrepid.
About the Teacher Jonathan Purssey:
I am the current British Champion and am training towards the London 2012 Olympics. I am a senior BJA qualified club coach and have my St Johns Ambulance emergency child first aid certificate and am CRB checked.
I have been doing judo since the age of 4 years old and was selected to represent Great Britain at 21 Years of age at Senior level. I am currently teaching here at Foxhills and at Bishopsgate School, to help fund my Olympic aspirations.
