The highly popular Aegon GB Pro Series women’s international tennis event returns from Sunday 30 July to Saturday 5 August, after a one year break with a special VIP Hospitality experience on Finals Day (Saturday 5 August), and free entry to spectators, up to and including Friday.
The Aegon GB Pro-Series Foxhills is an ITF Pro Circuit women’s $25k event, which has seen a number of players since move on to the higher echelons of the game. 2011 saw this year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist, and new world number 4 Jo Konta beat Laura Robson in the final, whilst all the world’s top players sharpened their professional careers at this level.
This year sees another exciting line up with four players currently ranked inside the world top 200, three of whom are also in the top 150. Italian player, Jasmine Paolini, with a current ranking of 132 is the highest ranked player. The 21 year old recently won a $100k title in Marseilles, plus has played qualifying at Wimbledon, French Open, and Australian Open this year, together with representing her country in the Fed Cup in April. A player arriving at Foxhills in some seriously good form is Mihaela Buzarnescu. Having recently won three back to back $60k titles, and having reached the 2nd round of Wimbledon qualifying, the former world junior number 4 has really shot up the rankings in the past month. The other top 200 players in action are 19 year old Viktoria Kuzmova, who lost in the final round of Wimbledon Qualifying 2017, plus Lesley Kerkhove, who is a regular visitor to Great Britain, and is also a top 100 doubles player having reached the last 32 at this year’s Wimbledon doubles event.
Lesley is one of a number of players returning to this popular venue. 2013 champion Pemra Ozgen, and 2012 runner-up Diana Marcinkevica will be familiar faces, whilst former top 50 player Maria Teresa Torro-Flor, who reached the 3rd round of the French Open in 2014, will be making her debut at Foxhills.
The British Challenge will be led by 20 year old Harriet Dart, who played main draw doubles at this year’s Wimbledon, 19 year old Gabby Taylor, and Freya Christie, who is also 19. All three played singles at Wimbledon qualifying in 2017.
Richard Joyner, Tournament Director, says “It is always such a pleasure to return to Foxhills. The Club are always so pro-active in their support of the event, which together with the fantastic facilities makes it such a great week for the player’s and everyone involved. It’s great to be back after a break in 2016, and this year’s event again sees a strong player line up, with there promising to be some excellent tennis throughout the week.”
Women’s qualifying for the Aegon GB Pro-Series Foxhills is Sunday 30 July & Monday 31 July, with main draw Tuesday 1 August to Saturday 5 August. The women’s singles and doubles final are both scheduled for Saturday 5 August.
