Instructor Profile (Embroidery): Katherine Savage

My name is Katherine Savage and I am an embroidery artist and run Treasure Kave embroidery. I learned to embroider at aged seven and I don't remember a time when it wasn't in my life. Embroidery for me is my therapy, it gives me the much needed escapism from everyday life and an outlet for creativity. I've been teaching for many years now and I love helping others learn, explore and enjoy the wonderful craft.

Most surprising fact about your career?
I spend more time designing and photographing patterns than actually stitching them!
People often imagine days full of calm, peaceful sewing — but running a business means you wear all the hats!

What is your artistic inspiration?
I find inspiration mostly from nature. Growing up in then New Forest close to the beach, l was always out for walks and bike rides with my family from a young age. It’s so peaceful and full of incredible natural textures.

What is your favourite thing about teaching embroidery workshops?
I love helping others fall in love with a craft l get so much out of. Certain stitches many find hard, but with a few simple adjustments are so enjoyable and you could say slightly addictive!
