Bernard Hunt Course Maintenance: 1st and 2nd August

Next week, our greenkeepers will carry out two days of summer maintenance on the Bernard Hunt course.

Greens - Greens will be scarified to a depth of 2mm, hollow tined with a 10mm tine with 15-20 tonnes of sand dressed and brushed into the surface. A further sand dressing will be applied to fill the times and smooth the surface if required

Approaches - Approaches will be scarified to a depth of 4mm, solid tined with an 18mm tine and 20 tonnes of sand dressed per hectare.

Tees - Tees will be solid tined with an 18mm tine and  20 tonnes of sand dressing per hectare.

Hollow tines will remove a core of subsoil, removing thatch and organic matter. Whereas solid tines punch a hole to break up the surface, improve aeration and stimulate growth.

The weather forecast looks kind so, when the course reopens for play on Wednesday, there will be sand-filled holes visible but regular cutting and rolling should minimise the disruption to the roll of the ball. If current weather conditions continue, the greens should be fully healed before the end of the month.
