Congratulations to Foxhills member, Judy Searle, on her election as captain of the Surrey Lady Captain's Society.

The society is formed to offer a chance to play and network with other lady captains to develop club relations. Membership is open to anyone who has been a lady captain of a Surrey golf club and membership currently stands at more than 600.

Judy joined the Surrey Lady Captains' Society shortly after finishing her captaincy of Foxhills in 2010. In 2014, the Golden Jubilee year, Judy was elected to the committee, helping run various events for members, taking the lead in arranging the AGM at Walton Heath and the mixed invitation at Worplesdon.

Judy became secretary of the society from 2018 until 2021.

This year sees the Diamond Anniversary, with an extended AGM at Kingswood at which she takes over as captain. She is extremely proud to be representing the society, wearing the “Surrey” with the fringe on top and as the first Foxhills captain to hold the post, the club’s name will be recorded every year.

As well as holding many organisational responsibilities for matches, Judy helps to raise money for charity as part of her role as society member - Battleback for injured service personnel, Surrey Junior Girls and in support of our Foxhills captain, Ian Howick’s, charity, KSS Air Ambulance.

SLCS was founded by Joan Rothschild in 1964 and she was the first captain with Molly Gourley as the first president. The first meeting was held at Kingswood GC, when members played 18 in the morning and another 18 in the afternoon for the founder’s salvers.

Judy expects this to be her last year in an organising role, but her experience as Foxhills’ Pearson captain, Club Captain, Surrey Pearson organiser on the Committee of Management and time on SWG – former SLCGA Committee will be a good apprenticeship.

Our Director of Golf, Sean Graham, said: "Judy's commitment to improving golf, not only at her home club of Foxhills, but also to her local region is amazing and we congratulate her on the achievement of captain elect. Judy celebrates her 30th year at Foxhills this year; what better celebration than her year as captain of Surrey LCS. Her presence within the regional members and at her annual AGM helps to boost the profile of Foxhills and I can't think of a better ambassador for our club."
